Empty Me, Fill Me, Use Me: Choosing Wisely This Lent

During a recent Bible study on Deuteronomy 30 and Numbers 31, I was struck by this simple truth: God gives us free will to choose Him. He cannot use us for good if we don’t choose wisely.
Lent is the perfect time to reflect on that truth. The prayer app I follow has a 40-day Lent challenge with the theme: “Empty me, fill me, use me.” Forty days to examine our choices, to notice what we cling to, and to consider how God might be calling us to choose differently.
Letting Go to Make Space
What parts of your life could you let go of this Lent? It might be a habit, a need, a comfort—or something that isn’t “bad” at all, but simply habitual. If God could empty you of something, what would it be?
Filling the Space during Lent
Once we let go, we can fill that space intentionally. Maybe it’s volunteering, reading an inspirational book, reaching out to someone, or simply slowing down to reflect on God’s presence. These choices matter—they create room for God to work through us.
Choosing Wisely
When we choose habits and actions aligned with God’s will, we become instruments for His good. In a world where forgiveness is rare, nothing is impossible for God. He remains faithful, merciful, and generous with grace—day after day.
This Lent, my prayer is that we all take time to choose wisely. Let’s open ourselves to being emptied, filled, and used by a God who can do infinitely more through us than we could imagine.
